Fall 2017 Scholarship Recipients Announced

Washington, DC - Honor Society, a leading national academic and professional honor society, announced the Fall 2017 Scholarship Recipients in November 2017. Six recipients were chosen in categories including Community Service, Undergraduate/Graduate Achievers, and even a Study Abroad scholarship and will receive scholarships ranging from $1000 to $2000 per person.

Each of these students have excelled in some area of their academic career or personal life. Some of these students have demonstrated this through their volunteer work while others have focused on taking on a challenging curriculum and maintaining an impressive grade point average.

“These students have pushed themselves to go above and beyond in many different areas of in their lives,” said Honor Society Executive Director, Michael Moradian. “These scholarships are a way to recognize these inspirational people for working hard to excel in their academics and leadership skills. We are proud of what these Honor Society members have achieved and look forward to what they will accomplish in the future!”

The Fall 2017 Scholarship period is one of many rounds of scholarships offered by Honor Society. Scholarship recipients are glad they joined in order to take advantage of the year-round scholarship opportunities.


Scholarship Recipients

Member Spotlight Scholarship Recipient -Albert Appouh, Columbia University, 4.0 GPA. - Albert is pursuing a degree in mathematics at Columbia University. He is committed to showing others that their background, medical history, or social status has no effect on what they will be able to accomplish by applying hard work, determination, and by staying goal-oriented towards a brighter future.

Study Abroad Scholarship Recipient - Esther Kim, Baylor University, 4.0 GPA. - Esther is majoring in Linguistics and German at Baylor University. She is studying abroad in Freiburg, Germany and absolutely loving getting to know the city, the people, the culture, and of course the food. Esther is looking forward to exploring her town even further and travel parts of Germany.

Undergraduate Achiever Scholarship Recipient - Justin Bartell, Florida State University, 3.98 GPA. - Justin is a Junior at Florida State University majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry. He researched cell-based therapy for Celiac Disease and presented this research at the iGEM Jamboree this past November. His goal is to further his education with an MD-PhD program in Biomedical Engineering.

Society Involvement Scholarship - Kiss'Shonna Curtis. junior at The University of Washington Seattle, 3.83 GPA. -Kiss'Shonna is currently planning on double majoring in education, community and organizations (ECO) and psychology. She plans to attend graduate school to pursue a Psy.D in clinical psychology, which will allow her to one day open up her own private practice and counsel families.

Community Service Scholarship Recipient - Rachel Horton, University of Vermont, 3.96 GPA. - She is a Junior majoring in Early Childhood Education and working t­­­­­­owards a Dual Endorsement in K-12 Special Education with a minor in American Sign Language. She is involved with clubs on campus including a group called Chi Alpha, a Christian Ministry on campus. She attends Monday night worships, bible studies and service trips. Rachel is the club leader of XA Serve. Their mission is to raise awareness and engage the campus in problems of social justice. They will be conducting a series of services and education in her community, this year around the issue of Human Trafficking.

Graduate Achiever Scholarship - University of Florida, 3.92 GPA. - Reynerio obtained his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami (UM) and is currently a PhD student in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at the University of Florida. While the aid he receives from the University of Florida is quite generous, occasionally has difficulty paying for the materials needed for his courses. With the help of the Graduate Achiever Scholarship, he will not have to take out extra loans to pay for his education and will help purchase the materials needed for future research project in healthcare operations.
